GM:HTML5 gaem! For braingale compo!

I'm working on a game for the Braingale Competition. It's a running game similar to canabalt, it has 3 different control buttons however. I have a WIP out right now, and it's in GM:HTML5 form, so you don't even need to download it!  Ladies and gentlement I present to you...

argh what to do

Haven't posted for a while... 24 days to be exact, too bad I couldn't make some kind of turkey-themed game for thanksgiving :P Anyway, right now I haven't got any projects to work on. Rocket Leaper could use a little bit of polish here and there, hopefully at the end of November I can release it, It will probably only have 1 music track in it, though.
I'm trying to come up with unique game concepts and random junk like that, then I'll try to prototype some of it.  Right now I'm in a state of limbo when it comes to game development. My brain isn't working right.
Oh, here's a thing Robert3DG (one of the testers for Rocket Leaper) drew up to give me an idea of how the menu could look...

The menu actually looks like that now(I used this as a reference image :P).

Lawbreaker Of The GMC

I made something completely random for the GMC Jam this weekend. The theme was "laws".
The game is not particularly noteworthy, but it should entertain you for a few minutes... you may not understand some of the game if you are not a GMC Member.

6 Days left, oh noes

As some of you know, I'm working on a game for the Scary 4 Digits(I would put up a link but the stupid site won't load) competition over at 64 Digits. The deadline is the end of October. Only 6 days left, I hope we can make it! Fortunately we're almost done (by we, I mean Bret Hudson and I, we're collaborating...). I've only gotta make a few more rooms for the ending gameplay sequence and then the ending text+credits and some finishing touches.

Here's a fresh screenshot that doesn't spoil much.

What ever happened to Rocket Leaper? O:

So I was playing AUS (An Untitled Story) today(I'm almost halfway through) and suddenly I realized: "I haven't released Rocket Leaper yet!".
So anyways, I know people all over the world are waiting actively with drool oozing down their chins for this game(right?)... Don't worry, people! The game will be released as soon as I get 3 or so music tracks for the game, there are 2 people working on them and so far I haven't got anything yet. :\  So just be patient pl0x.

On an unrelated note, what is the scariest 2D game you've ever played? I'm looking for ideas on how to make my game scary(for my "Scary 4 Digits" comp game). So far I've gotten some really good ideas from the people over at TIGSource. Still could use some more concepts though.

Scary 4 Digits compo

Imma be making a game for THIS competition over the course of this month...
It's very likely that my game will be a sequel to Saga Of The Ugly...
It's about... oh, heck, you'll find out when you play the finished game!

Anyway, I'm planning for this to be a scary game... the monster hanging from the ceiling is probably going to be one of the main character's friends... it's name is Uvulapoz. It's really not going to help the player much, though.

Rocket Leaper - Almost done + New project - GameCluster

Rocket Leaper is basically finished, all it needs now is music and highscore protection (they are easily hackable atm). Can't wait to release it to you guys!

Also...
I've started a new project~
GameCluster
(Panoken, one of the OSG's)

GameCluster will be a compilation of OSG's (One-script-games) all put together into one game. Right now it only has 2 games in it(made by me), one of them is not really complete though. You can check out the GMC WIP Topic here, or just download right here. These one-script-games are not (hopefully) going to be made exclusively by me, I hope to get other people to chip in and contribute their own OSG's to this project. So feel free to send me a PM on the GMC or email me at orange08-jock@hotmail.com to submit an OSG.

woohoo

Woohoo I got 1st place in the 5th RDC(Rapid Development Competition)!!!
My game was called LASOR DOT MAN and it was a very pixely game with a 40 X 30 pixel resolution.

No prize, no reward... just the satisfaction of a job well done and I also got a bit of good ol' pracitce(at making games quickly of course)!

P.S.
Just finished adding meteor showers to Rocket Leaper, the game's going epicly!

wow I'm so lazy

Today I was too lazy to work on Rocket Leaper, so I just started doodling(things like these are also sometimes called zentangles)...
Sorry if it takes a long time to load.
Anyways, I learnt something new from one of my game-testers, asteroids do not reach the earth's atmosphere, only meteorites do! I guess I've gotta stop calling those falling asteroi- d'oh- I mean I better stop calling those falling rocks asteroids.

Oh, I also uploaded this vid of Rocket Leaper hell mode: clicky

Rocket Leaper vid

I uploaded a 13 seconds-long video to youtube. 13 seconds = 5 minutes uploading time -_-

Anyway I've been making some good progress on the game. I've let another guy, Dark Matter in on the testing. It has 2 difficulty modes, easy, and hell. As one GMC member put it: "It's either a casual game or you're up for a challenge!". The finished game will (probably) have online highscores as well, so this should be pretty sweet! :)
I hope to have the game finished at least by the end of September.

stuff's happenin!

Last night I released a test version of Rocket Leaper to my 3 testers(ThatSnail, Robert3DG, and Andy). So far I'm getting some pretty positive responses, the game obviously still needs more work, though.
I've also sent the game to another friend of mine who makes music, Twee/Fyaopo. He makes some really awesome music tracks, I hope he'll be willing to make one for Rocket Leaper! :)

I changed around and added a few things to the blog, the Art page might be worth looking at.

my new official avatar

As you can see, I've made myself a new avatar. I plan to stick with this one so it can become the image I am associated with. Yay.
Progress on Rocket Leaper goes well, I'm having trouble coming up with new rocket-type ideas. So feel free to give some ideas over on the GMC Game Ideas Topic. I'm also probably going to stick with the name Rocket Leaper.
Here is a new screenshot.
I guess that's all for now. Cya.

:E

Well it seems as if I may not be entering the Indie(function)/GameJolt competition after all. I have too many other projects that need attending to right now.

If you often browse the GMC Game Ideas & Design forum you may know that I have been working on remaking Rocket Leaper(name is subject to change). Rocket Leaper, as some of you know, was a GMC Jam #3 entry made in 72 hours... wait no, 36 hours, I spent the rest of my time on a second  entry for the jam :3
 >image removed<
I've been focusing on making better graphics for it, taking bits of advice from the GMC Chatroom. I think it looks pretty good...
I'm glad I started reworking the game from scratch, because, as you know, the GMC Jam version was made in 36 hours, and certainly rushed, with lots and lots of trashy "code". So starting fresh has made it easier to implement some of the new ideas that have been suggested on my game ideas topic HERE.

Meanwhile, my other Jam entry, "The Statues Live!" has had it's little sequel sitting around for a while. I've made some pretty nifty progress on the pro-gen'd levels so far. I'm just having a bit of trouble figuring out how I'm going to make the random levels be actual puzzles.

That's all for now!

RDC T0day!

I will (hopefully) be participating in the RDC(Rapid Development Competition) today! The RDC is a comp where you make a game in 4 hours based on their theme, you can use any game developing program you want to.
They announced the theme before it started, oddly enough... the theme is "The letter F". You are supposed to start developing at 2 PM EST (my time), today!

Wish me luck!

Edit: 2nd place with this heap of trash!: download

Infinibattle

I forgot to post a link to the competition topic on GJ: Click here
My game is going well, I have just finished redrawing the player and boss' sprites all over again making them slightly bigger. I'm glad that's over with!

Now all I've got to do is add billions of more attacks for the boss! Only have 5 atm.

new game for gamejolt comp

I've just started working on a new game for a competition over at GameJolt. The comp is being hosted by Indie(function). The theme is "music interpretation". Here is their poster:
Click for full size.
So when I heard about the competition, I started listening to some tracks. Eventually I found one that reminded me of an old idea I once had. A boss battle that never ended, the boss just got stronger and stronger with more attacks. Your score would be whatever level the boss was at when you died. So I started working on it right away!

Infinibattle
The player is the guy with the cape.

The battle is fought on the edge of a cliff. Farther to the right is a tall boulder that cannot be leapt over.
I'm pretty happy with it so far. Also, does this screenshot *cough* remind you of anything?

new laptop

I just got a new laptop, my brother gave it to me since he didn't use it anymore and mine had broken. All I can say is, I can see why he didn't use this laptop.
It's pretty loud at times, it stays quiet for like 10 seconds, then turns the fan on for about 10 seconds, on and off, it gets quite annoying. Also, the touchpad, the touchpad is awful. It's hard impossible to tell by touching it, whether it is just the flatness of your keyboard or one of the clickers. Also this computer has tapping, I hate tapping, and I especially hate it when you CAN'T DISABLE TAPPING (by the way, you can't disable tapping on this computer)  (o\_/o)

What makes it even worse is that I have an external mouse, and it picked this time to break.

So don't expect much from me until I buy myself a new external mouse...

Oh, one more thing, there's a competition over at GameJolt that started last Saturday and you have a month or something to make a game based on the theme "Music Interpretation". Hopefully I can make something for it, despite these horrid circumstances.
Also, lol, I'm following my own blog.

New Games Page

I've added a Games Page and put in my WIP's and Finished games there.

I recently entered 2 games in the GMC Jam #3, which ended on the 1st of August or something. You make a game in 72 hours based on the theme they give, this time it was "LIVE". My first game "Rocket Leaper" was, In my opinion, quite a fun and original concept, however some people seemed to think that it didn't stick to the theme very well and/or got boring real quick. I have plans to finish it sometime soon when I have a chance as I believe it has a lot of potential.

My second game was titled "The Statues Live!", a lame name, I know. In the game you control 2 lifeless statues by way of a life-giving orb that transfers itself between them. It's a puzzle platformer. I'm remaking the game ATM, and trying to make a procedural generator that creates puzzles(also I'm probably gonna rename the game something like "Curse Of Stone"). Wish me luck!
